چکیده

From Press-Schechter formalism and the observed X-ray cluster L-T relation, we derive an X-ray cluster luminosity function that can be applied to the growing number of high-redshift, X-ray cluster luminosity catalogs to constrain cosmological parameters. In this paper, we apply this luminosity function to the Einstein Medium Sensitivity Survey (EMSS) to constrain Ω0. Our results favor high values of this parameter: values that are consistent with unity. In the case of the EMSS, we find a deficiency of high-redshift, luminous X-ray clusters, which demonstrates that the luminosity function appears to have evolved above L⋆. For the typical value of the slope of CDM-like mass density fluctuation power spectra on cluster scales (n = −1), we find that Ω0 > 0.70 at the 84% confidence level and that Ω0 > 0.33 at the 98% confidence level. We additionally apply a simplified version of this luminosity function to the published luminosity function of the ROSAT Brightest Cluster Survey to better constrain n. In combination with our EMSS results, our fitted value of n again favors high values of Ω0. We do not assume any particular value of σ8. A Search for X–ray Bright Distant Clusters of Galaxies

We present the results of a search for X–ray luminous distant clusters of galaxies. We found extended X–ray emission characteristic of a cluster towards two of our candidate clusters of galaxies. They both have a luminosity in the ROSAT bandpass of ≃ 10 erg s and a redshift of > 0.5; thus making them two of the most distant X–ray clusters ever observed. Furthermore, we show that both clusters a...

The Warps Survey: Iii. the Discovery of an X-ray Luminous Galaxy Cluster at Z = 0.833 and the Evolution of X-ray Luminous Clusters

The Wide Angle ROSAT Pointed Survey (WARPS) reports the discovery of ClJ0152.7–1357, an X-ray luminous, rich cluster of galaxies at a redshift of z = 0.833. At LX = 8×10 44 h 50 erg s −1 (0.5−2.0 keV) ClJ0152.7–1357 is, together with MS1054.4–0321, the most X-ray luminous cluster known at redshifts z > 0.55. The high X-ray luminosity of the system suggests that massive clusters may begin to for...

High redshift X – ray galaxy clusters . II . The L X − T relationship revisited

Aims. In this paper we re-visit the observational relation between X–ray luminosity and temperature for high-z galaxy clusters and compare it with the local L X –T and with theoretical models. Methods. To these ends we use a sample of 17 clusters extracted from the Chandra archive supplemented with additional clusters from the literature, either observed by Chandra or XMM–Newton, to form a fina...

Planck early results. XXVI. Detection with Planck and confirmation by XMM-Newton of PLCK G266.6–27.3, an exceptionally X-ray luminous and massive galaxy cluster at z ~ 1⋆

We present first results on PLCK G266.6−27.3, a galaxy cluster candidate detected at a signal-to-noise ratio of 5 in the Planck All Sky survey. An XMM-Newton validation observation has allowed us to confirm that the candidate is a bona fide galaxy cluster. With these X-ray data we measure an accurate redshift, z = 0.94 ± 0.02, and estimate the cluster mass to be M500 = (7.8 ± 0.8) × 1014 M . PL...

2 XMMJ 100451 . 6 + 411627 ? : A cool core cluster at z = 0 . 82

Aims. Gas cooling in the centre of massive galaxy clusters is believed to feed the most powerful active galactic nuclei in the Universe. How often clusters at high redshift show such cool cores has still to be explored by current and upcoming X-ray telescopes. Methods. We correlated extended X-ray emissions from the second XMM-Newton source catalogue with SDSS data to particularly identify dist...
